Please contact us a day or two before the due date if you'd like to renew your item. Renewals are not guaranteed, as the owning library decides whether a renewal is possible. If the item is already overdue, renewal is unlikely—please return it so we can send it back promptly.
Once we receive your request, our Inter-Library Loans team will check with the lending library. Here are a few things to keep in mind:
British Library loans cannot be renewed, but they come with a longer initial loan period.
If a renewal is approved:
The first renewal is free
Subsequent renewals cost £2 each, added to your library account
You can pay online using a credit/debit card via Library Search (sign in with your university email and password)
If a full renewal isn’t possible but the item is still in date, we may be able to offer a free extension of up to 3 working days—just enough time to finish using the item before it needs to be returned.
Chat with one of our librarians during staffed hours, or one of our partner librarians from around the world outside of staffed hours. The service is available 24/7!
