The main databases for textiles students are: 

  • Art Full Text Featuring full-text articles, indexing and abstracts from an array of publications. It covers a variety of topics from fine, decorative and commercial art to photography, folk art, film and architecture. (Best viewed using Chrome).
  • Bloomsbury Berg Fashion Library Berg Fashion Library is the leading resource for students and researchers of fashion studies. Interdisciplinary in nature, with great visual and integrated content, it is invaluable for researchers in the areas of fashion, museum studies, cultural studies and more.
  • Bloomsbury Dress and Costume Library Comprehensive online collection for the interdisciplinary study of dress and costume history, design and making, and offers an indispensable scholarly and educational resource to support the study of dress history, costume studies and costume design.
  • Bloomsbury Fairchild Books Library Browse and search ebooks covering draping, fashion business management, history, illustration, pattern making, styling, product development, sustainable fashion, textiles, and more.
  • Common Objective Business database for the ethical and sustainable fashion industry from the Ethical Fashion Forum. Individual registration required, follow the registration guidance provided.
  • Design and Applied Arts Index Coverage includes fashion, textiles, interior design, theatre design, industrial design, ceramics, glass, jewellery and photography.
  • Drapers Online Online full-text access to Drapers plus supplementary news, commentary and features on fashion business, fashion companies and fashion retail. Individual registration required, follow the registration guidance provided.
  • Fashion Monitor Discover fashion contacts and influencers and keep up to date with the latest fashion news and events. Individual registration required, follow the registration guidance provided.
  • VADS Over 140,000 images from over 300 art and design collections in the UK including fabric, clothing and jewellery images.
  • Vogue Archive Search or browse the American edition of Vogue magazine from the very first issue in 1892 to present day.
  • WGSN This fashion website contains downloadable images which may be used for teaching and learning purposes, as well as market and industry news, fashion retailing information and designer profiles. 
  • Women's Wear Daily Archive Search the digital archive of the US fashion magazine Women's Wear Daily (WWD). The digital archive includes cover-to-cover full-text access from 1910 onwards.
