Academics can use the digitisation service to request book chapters and journal articles scanned under the terms of the CLA Licence. This digitised material can be made available to students for use on specific modules. Normally we can digitise up to one chapter, or 10% (whichever is the greater) from a book; and up to two articles from an issue of a journal.

To request digitisation, firstly make sure that the material is added to your module Resource List.

Click on the item title to see the full item information. At the bottom you will see links to Request Digitisation, and View Copyright (CLA) Permissions:

First, select View copyright (CLA) permissions to check if the item can be digitised. Generally, if the Photocopy permission has a green tick, we should be able to digitise a print copy; a green tick against Digital means that we can reproduce e-book content:

(NB if there is a red cross against Photocopying, see the Library’s Digitisation web page and complete a request there. Please note that we cannot guarantee to digitise all requests – we have to operate within copyright legislation and publisher permissions.)

Click on the Request Digitisation link and complete the short form with the chapter/page range of content you would like to be digitised, and click Send. Your request has now been sent to the Library. You will need to submit separate requests for each chapter or extract.

Once digitised, the content will be added to your Resource List and will be available to students.
